Company and trust review: available in beta

Company tax return review software for Australian accounting firms

Review the completed company file before the registered practitioner signs off. Taxpartna helps your team compare the return, financial statements and supporting workpapers, surface inconsistencies and identify information that needs closer attention.

Your preparation software produces the return. Taxpartna adds a review layer around the completed file. Your practitioner makes the final decision.

Review the final file, not just the final calculation

A company job can pass through several versions before it reaches the reviewer. A year-end journal changes the accounts. A loan schedule is updated. A deduction is reclassified. The draft return may still contain a figure from an earlier version.

The review question is not simply whether each document looks complete. It is whether the final documents tell a consistent, supported story.

Taxpartna is designed to help the reviewer navigate that question, while keeping technical assessment and sign-off with the practitioner.

Connect the return with the company workpapers

A useful company review follows the relationships between accounting profit, tax adjustments, taxable income, supporting schedules and the final return. It also considers whether significant balances and disclosures agree wherever they appear.

Within supported checks, Taxpartna brings attention to values that agree, differ, appear in only one source or cannot be found in the submitted file. Those results are prompts for assessment, not a verdict on the return.

A value found once is not automatically wrong. A value found twice is not automatically right. The reviewer still decides whether the evidence is sufficient.

Keep company-specific issues in view

Company files can require separate work on related-party loans, dividends, franking, company tax-rate eligibility, losses, asset disposals and personal services income. Not every issue applies to every company, and not every practitioner review step is automated.

Use the company tax return review checklist to structure the wider review. For focused guidance, explore Division 7A workpaper review, base-rate-entity review and franking account review.

Taxpartna's Division 7A review looks for relevant information and supporting documentation in submitted workpapers. It does not calculate minimum yearly repayments or decide the legal outcome.

A practical company-review example

Illustrative example: not a promise that every difference will be detected.

The final tax reconciliation shows taxable income of $428,600. The draft return still shows $418,600. A reviewer checks the difference and finds a $10,000 adjustment entered after the return was first prepared.

The reviewer determines whether the adjustment is appropriate, updates the affected return and calculation through the firm's existing process, and records the resolution.

The useful outcome is not an automated “pass”. It is a specific review question, an identified source and a documented human conclusion.

Fit an additional check into the existing workflow

Complete preparation using your current accounting and tax systems. Provide the supported return, workpapers and relevant evidence for review. Assess the findings, investigate unresolved matters and update affected documents. Then perform the firm's final review and sign-off.

Taxpartna does not need to become the system that prepares or lodges the return. The workpaper review workflow explains this separation in more detail.

Do not treat an earlier analysis as evidence of a later amended file. Where documents change, review the affected findings again using the available workflow.

Keep the review outcome understandable

A future reviewer should be able to see what changed and why. Record the significant issue, the source, the enquiry, the evidence obtained and the conclusion.

Taxpartna's supported review reporting can form part of that record. The firm remains responsible for deciding what the full client file needs to retain. See the tax review file note checklist for a practical structure.

Put a clearer review between preparation and sign-off

Give your reviewer a structured starting point without transferring the professional decision to software.

Taxpartna is a quality-assurance assistance tool, not a tax agent or a substitute for professional judgement. The registered practitioner retains responsibility for calculations, conclusions and final sign-off.
